Nkiruka Drum and Dance Ensemble, based in New Orleans, Louisiana, is the brainchild of Artistic Director, Tiffany Knighten Buddington. "Nkiruka" is an Igbo name derived from the country of Nigeria in West Africa meaning "the best is yet to come" and "good fortune."
Tiffany envisioned dancers from diverse dance backgrounds coming together and creating an outlet where they could share their vast knowledge of dance. She wanted everyone to be able to express their works, from traditional to newer more modern styles, both freely and uninhibited. She truly believes that "there is more power in unity."
Her vision came to life in June 2013, when she founded Nkiruka Drum and Dance Ensemble. Although being relatively new, the company is comprised of dancers who have been in practice for many years. Diversity is our specialty - our dancers are versed in many genres ranging from Traditional African, Modern, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary African, Second Line, Samba, and even Belly Dance!
